Effective communication is driven by this thing. It’s core. And no startup idea survives without it. It's amazing how this common phrase is so easily ignored – when it's the thing that changes everything…
The Missing Link To Your Business
There's a difference between the people who give their absolute best and the ones who do enough to get by.
You see that distinction every time you witness an Olympic athlete. We know when we encounter greatness because we’re amazed by it and drawn to it.
Greatness in others is inspiring
And it makes you feel inspired and strong enough for your own dreams. But it doesn’t just happen with people.
If you don’t develop the tools that lead to greatness, then the contact high of being around someone else’s fire will eventually wear off. You need your own fire. And true greatness is fueled by one core quality ~ Focus.
Focus is the difference between the kind of light that brightens up a room and the kind of light that fires a laser.
Focused light can cut through flesh, wood and metal, depending on the strength.
This Quality Can Be Deadly
For example, if you concentrate on your past hurts and failures, then you tend to recreate them in your future because that’s where your focus is.
Misplaced focus can burn a hole in your dreams.
But if you use wisdom to target your attention, then it can burn a hole in the barriers blocking your success.
The one quality that you have to have, to be successful is absolute laser like focus.”
Robert Herjavec, SharkTank
So, it’s time to pour your best energy into what matters most. But knowing that you need to focus is not the same thing as knowing where to put your focus.
Effective communication is the thing, you know.
It’s well talked about, but mostly misused. Look, everybody has a mouth, right. So everybody’s talking. But everybody is NOT effective. Communication is the key element to your business — it’s management, it’s marketing, it’s everything. And it matters more than most understand.
Like an olympic athlete, you have to train to be effective. And when done right your message goes deep. At the heart…
Effective communication is the ability to share your story with your people in a way that creates a specific response and action.

And the better you communicate with your people, the better your bottom-line, the stronger your team, the deeper your relationships. Here's my point:

Effective communication is a deal maker. It’s not something you have to do for business. Effective communication is your business. So…
Focus on your message. And then test it on your people. For authors that's your readers. If they don't respond to your message adjust it.
For business owners that's your clients. For performers (singers, dancers, actors) these are your fans. For managers, I’m talking about your team.
And for small business owners with new projects and ideas, your people are the ones:
- who care about what you have to say,
- who respond to what you offer,
- who buy what you have
Your people = your audience. And it’s your job to see, understand and serve them, otherwise, you’ll lose them.
Every person, product and brand carries a message
— or at least they should — and the better you deliver that message, the easier it is to attract and keep your audience. Whether you’re a writer, artist or business owner you need clients, a target market, fans, a team and people.
It’s our job to craft a story that matters to our audience. It’s our job to grow that audience. It’s our job to serve that audience with the best we have.
At the core business is effective communication. That's why 91GRIT is about the Story and the Systems that drive your vision.
We understand that what you focus on determines the quality of your business, so choose to focus on effective communication. Without it great books go unread, great products go unused, great people remain unknown.
